In a press release on Tuesday, the Rumble Ponies announced that third baseman Brett Baty had received the Minor League Player of the Year award. The 22-year-old infielder played the majority of his 2022 season with the Rumble Ponies before being called up to triple-A Syracuse and later being promoted to the New York Mets as an injury replacement.

Baty slashed .312/.406/.544 for an OPS of .950 during his time with the Rumble Ponies, and his .365/.435/.688 slash line in the month of July earned him the Eastern League Player of the Month award.

While Baty struggled during his time with the Mets, he did hit a home run in his first Major League at bat, giving fans a small preview into what could be expected of him when he inevitably gets the permanent call up to the big leagues.

Baty was placed on the injured list on August 29th after suffering a UCL tear in his right thumb, effectively ending his 2022 season. He is likely to begin the 2023 season with the Syracuse Mets, with current big league third baseman Eduardo Escobar under contract for the 2023 season. If Baty performs exceptionally well, he could get the call up at some point next season and push Escobar into a utility role with the Mets. But at this point, the Mets have no need to rush Baty's development in triple-A.

The organization will honor Baty and others in a pre-game ceremony at Citi Field today before their final regular season game.
