'Be way too embarrassed to stay in to avoid #stormbrian. Could they not have called it Beelzebub?'

At least we'll be able to spell this one...

After yesterday's struggle with Ophelia (the spelling as opposed to the hurricane itself), the name of next storm on the horizon is coming in for some criticism too.

Storm Brian is set to pass through Ireland later this week bringing strong winds and rain, although Met Eireann tell independent.ie that it's "nothing to worry about".

It's a relief as the country comes to terms with the destruction left in the wake of Ophelia.

According to TV3 weatherman Deric Hartigan the new storm has not been officially named yet but that hasn't stopped us taking umbrage at its potential moniker, which is not, according to Twitter, befitting of a storm.

Since the early 50s storms have been named from lists drawn up by the National Hurricane Center and they are now managed by an international committee of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO).

Six lists of names are used in rotation, so the list for 2017 will be used again in 2023.

On Monday, Hurricane #Ophelia was trending on Twitter.  So was Opehlia.  And even #Opheila. By the end of the day we got our heads around the spelling and #Ophelia was at number one again.

At least we'll be able to spell Brian.
